Prevention of Fe deficiency anemia especially in periods of rapid adolescent growth, pregnancy & lactation, excessive menstrual flow, old age. Fe deficiency anemia associated w/ traumatic or endogenous hemorrhages, surgery on the GI tract, malnutrition.
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Best taken between meals. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort. Do not take w/ cereals/tea/dietary fiber/coffee/eggs/milk.
Contraindications
Megaloblastic anemia secondary to vit B12 deficiency; folic acid may obscure pernicious anemia & produce hematologic remission while neurological damage progresses.
